Dear Atlantis Academy Families and Staff:

All Atlantis Academy Schools and offices will reopen on Monday, September 18, following Hurricane Irma. Each campus will follow their normal operating schedules.

As safety is always our highest priority, please exercise extreme caution while transporting your child to and from school. We recommend allowing yourself extra time in the event any temporary hazardous road conditions still exist within your community.

On behalf of Atlantis Academies, I want to express our gratitude for the support we have received from each of our communities – as together, we work to recover from the significant impact from Hurricane Irma. In addition, our dedicated staff has been working tirelessly before, during and after the storm. Their efforts to prepare our schools, communicate with our students and families, and inspect, repair damage and remove debris, have been tremendous – and I commend them for their dedication and support.

We look forward to welcoming all students and staff back to school on Monday, September 18, 2017.

Sincerely,

Mark DiConsiglio

UPDATE: 9/6/17
1:30 p.m.

Dear Atlantis Academy Families:

The Atlantis Academies continue to monitor Hurricane Irma and the impact it will have on south Florida. As a reminder, all Atlantis Academy campuses and offices are closed on Thursday, September 7 and Friday, September 8, 2017 as we prepare for Irma.

As we all prepare for the effects of Hurricane Irma, your children may have questions about hurricanes and what could happen during a storm. There are many resources available for parents and educators that help explain everything from how hurricanes form, to how to help children cope with disasters.

Ready.gov from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has resources for parents and educators, including emergency planning with children and helping answer children’s questions in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Ready.gov’s “Helping Children Cope” page includes parent questions and child psychologists’ answers, broken down by age group.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management’s kidsgetaplan.com offers games, stories and fun facts for children, and guides for parents and teachers.

Weather Wiz Kids and National Geographic Kids offer kid-friendly information about how hurricanes form, hurricane vocabulary and safety tips for hurricanes.

Finally, Autism Speaks has a wealth of information, resources, and tips for children and adolescents with disabilities, specifically children with autism spectrum disorders.

Atlantis Academies will continue to monitor Hurricane Irma. We will continue to keep employees and families updated with the latest information, as it becomes available. We encourage you to watch your local news, prepare your family and home, and visit the National Hurricane Center website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov.

Sincerely,

Mark DiConsiglio
